I’m beginning a new “public service” project today, staging photographs and illustrated ads to help make people aware of the reality behind current laws, specifically how the government enjoys trying to protect us from ourselves.
This first ad is for a “car driver helmet law” and why not? Airbags or not, most head injuries in the U.S. happen inside of the car.
Thanks to Josh Hires for playing the role of the cyclist.
Update!
A few groups contacted me recently to offer translation of this message to their own language. So, here are usages in German and French…
With thanks to Devianzen
Patrick your mind never stops. This is true. But could you Imagine this happening???.Then it would turn into who had the most styling helmet…lol…to funny
Now there is a helmet law I can support!
Nice “info-tography”. Do you have the source of the data?
All the best
Hey Claudio. The stats came from CDC raw data on TBI. It was a while back now, but as I remember, the way the CDC interprets this data on their own ‘public facing’ graphs, I found to be misleading. The raw data tells a different story, and you should be able to find a PDF of that TBI data on their site somewhere.
Again, as I remember, CDC includes anyone who visits the emergency room, regardless of whether their injuries were minor or did not require treatment. My ~50% number accounts only for serious head injuries needing hospitalization or resulting in death.
Hope that helps!

Interesting that the German numbers are higher…
according to the CDC, 40% of Traumatic Brain Injuries are sustained in a fall. Only 14% are sustained during a motor vehicle accident. Your numbers are off. Also what’s with the German math? How come they are 2/3 and not 1/2.
Hey Jason… This is a very old post by now, so numbers are from years ago and I’m not in a position to spend time re-calculating. Please reference the above for CDC “raw” statistics datasheet, and interpret them as you wish. For the German numbers, you’ll have to ask the Germans about it!
Cheers,
Patrick
